The basic method is to go "File >Export" and chose "Adobe PDF" from the "Formats" pop-up menu. The key to this process is the PDF settings you use.
You'll notice that the PDF settings dialog in InDesign looks a heck of a lot like the Distiller interface. This is no coincidence. InDesign's PDF settings dialog has all the options Distiller has. You can save presets for future use or load a settings file from Distiller.
InDesign allows you to make interactive PDFs. These can contain hyperlinks, forms and other interactive elements.
